Details

The ironsmith community of Bastar, Chhattisgarh has been shaping raw iron since before the region had a name for the practice. Lohshilp, the wrought iron craft, produces forms that read as drawings in three dimensions: animals, trees, figures pulled out of the metal by hand with hammer and fire alone. This handcrafted tealight stand carries forest motifs the way Bastar's landscape itself does, densely layered, alive.

Bastar's Lohshilp tradition turns raw iron rods into handmade objects that feel as if they grew rather than were made. Artisans from the Lohar community heat the metal over coal fires and beat it into shape against an anvil, the process unchanged from the one that once produced farming implements for tribal communities across Chhattisgarh. This stand, designed to hold tealights, brings that artisanal tradition into the domestic interior.

Lit, the form casts shadows that double the object on your wall, the iron lattice and the dark silhouette it projects become two versions of the same piece. Unlit, it reads as wall sculpture. The iron will darken slowly with handling and time; that depth is the material doing what it was always meant to do.

Materials + Care

Pure brass, sheesham, cotton — colours from a dye pot, not a swatch. Brass deepens with use; that is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours. Care notes for each material live in the Details above.
