Bastar Wrought Iron Standing Musicians Duo

Bastar, Chhattisgarh is iron-rich land, the ore has been here for millennia, and the Iron Smith communities who first worked it made tools for farming and hunting. Then the tools became art. Lohshilp, wrought iron craft, evolved into figures: spare, angular, utterly assured. These two musicians carry that lineage in their silhouette.

Wrought iron from Bastar is worked by hand, heated, hammered, twisted into form. The artisanal Lohshilp tradition that produced these handcrafted figures is one of the oldest surviving craft forms in India, practiced by communities whose ancestors were the smiths of the tribal belt. The result is a spare, almost modernist aesthetic that was never designed to look modern, it just is.
