Details

From Ganderbal, Kashmir, the willow wicker tradition known as Keani Keam, practiced by artisans who harvest willow from the valley floor and weave it into form by hand. This planter inverts the ombre direction: natural brown at the top fading into indigo at the base. The dye is applied to the willow strips before weaving so the color is integral to the object, not a surface treatment.

This planter from the Ganderbal region of Kashmir begins where the Indigo Ombre version ends, natural brown at the top, deepening into indigo at the base. The artisans of the Keani Keam tradition achieve this by dyeing specific willow strips before weaving begins, so the gradient is built into the structure of the piece rather than painted on afterward. The color sits inside the material.

A single planter in brown-to-indigo reads as grounded and specific, more interesting on its own than most dip-dyed objects because the gradient is subtle and the weave texture complicates it. Set a trailing plant inside and let the leaves break above the natural brown rim.

Materials + Care

Pure brass, sheesham, cotton — colours from a dye pot, not a swatch. Brass deepens with use; that is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours. Care notes for each material live in the Details above.
