Chintz Aqua, Navy and Peach Bed Cover

Aqua, Navy, and Peach, an unexpected triad that the Chintz printers in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, have understood for generations: the cool and the warm, the deep and the pale, held together by an 18th-century floral pattern pressed into pure cotton with carved wooden blocks. The impression of each block is different from the one before it by some small measure. That variation is not error. It is evidence.

The Chintz pattern on this bed cover is drawn from 18th-century floral templates, the kind that Indian artisans developed for export markets and then kept for themselves, recognizing that the best designs outlast their original context. The palette of Aqua Green, Navy, and Peach is more unexpected than classic Chintz: the aqua reads differently depending on the hour, closer to teal in shadow, closer to turquoise in light.

Handcrafted and hand block-printed in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, on pure cotton yarn. Each impression of the carved wooden block is set by the artisan's hand pressure, which is why no two of these handmade bed covers are identical.
