Floral Border Block-Print Sheer Door Curtain

Printed by hand in the tradition of Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, where block-printers have carved motifs from teak wood and stamped them onto cotton for generations. This curtain's border was laid down using a carved wooden block pressed into natural dye, repeat by repeat along the length of the panel. The body stays sheer; the border defines the edge.

In Sanganer, Rajasthan, block-printers specialize, some carve the wooden blocks, others prepare the dye, others do only the stamping. This curtain passed through several pairs of hands before it arrived at the border motif you see: a hand-printed floral frame along the edge of a sheer cotton ground, applied with carved wooden blocks in a tradition that predates machine printing by centuries.

As a door or window curtain, it draws attention to the frame of a room, the border becomes the architecture. The sheer body lets daylight through while the printed edge reads as a deliberate line. Hang two panels facing each other and the borders form a continuous frame around the view.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold or hand wash in cold water.
• Wash separately for first two washes to prevent colour transfer.
• Do not bleach. Line dry in shade, avoid direct sunlight while drying.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp for best results.
• Avoid tumble drying on high heat.
