Floral Hand-Printed Waffle Weave Bath Towel

Printed by hand using carved wooden blocks in the block-printing tradition of Sanganer, Rajasthan, on a waffle-weave cotton that traps moisture in its honeycomb structure. The yellow floral motif was stamped onto the off-white ground repeat by repeat, each impression slightly different, which is the point. This is what handmade looks like up close.

The waffle weave is not decorative texture, it is a functional weave structure, each raised square creating more surface area against the skin and therefore faster absorption. On this towel, that structure is printed by hand using carved wooden blocks carrying a yellow floral motif, in the tradition of Sanganer block-printers outside Jaipur, Rajasthan. The dye settles into the ridges of the weave differently than it would on a flat surface, giving the print a depth that doesn't photograph easily.

It is lighter than a terry towel and dries faster than one. Keep it by the sink or fold it at the foot of a guest bed. The yellow brightens with washing for the first few months, the dye needs time to settle into cotton.
