Jaali Ivory and Taupe Block-Printed Bed Cover

Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, is a town built around water and cloth, its artisans have been washing and printing cotton in the Saraswati River tributaries for over three hundred years. This bed cover is printed there using carved wooden blocks, the Ivory and Taupe palette drawn directly from the sandstone tones of Rajasthan's palace interiors. The pattern repeats like a jaali screen, letting light appear to move through the cloth.

The motif on this bed cover borrows from the jaali, the pierced stone lattice work found in Rajasthan's historic palace corridors, where geometry became a way of managing light and air. In Sanganer, outside Jaipur, artisans pressed handmade carved wooden blocks across this pure cotton surface, building the repeat by hand. Ivory and Taupe with hints of yellow, the palette of old Rajasthani architecture, the colors of stone that has absorbed centuries of sun.
