Details
A small bowl made from 100% pure brass in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, etched by hand with motifs from the Kanjeevaram silk-weaving tradition of Tamil Nadu, and given an antique finish that pools in the etched grooves and thins at the edges. The bowl is compact. The handwork inside it is not.
This is the kind of object that earns its place by being used. Made from pure brass in Moradabad's Pital Nagari, the small handcrafted serving bowl carries Kanjeevaram-inspired border etching on its exterior, geometric, measured, the same vocabulary that Tamil Nadu's silk weavers have returned to for centuries. The antique finish makes the engraved detail read clearly without effort.
Set it out for achaar at dinner. For a small cluster of cardamom beside the chai kettle. For the ring your mother always leaves on the counter when she washes her hands. The bowl does not need a designated purpose, it simply holds whatever you put in it, and looks as though it was always meant to be there.
