Details
Pure brass jars made in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, etched by hand with border motifs drawn from the silk weave tradition of Kanjeevaram, Tamil Nadu. The antique finish is buffed unevenly, deeper in the etched grooves, lighter at the shoulders, so the pattern emerges from shadow rather than being printed onto the surface. Open the lid and it fits without rattling. That precision is not accidental.
These two jars from Moradabad's Pital Nagari are made from solid brass and given an antique finish that settles like age, the kind of surface that looks as though the object has been on a shelf for a decade, not because it was distressed, but because it was made with restraint. The Kanjeevaram etching runs along the body and lid in repeating geometric borders, the same rhythm that a loom would weave into silk, translated here into metal by hand.
Use them for tea and sugar on the counter. For biscuits. For anything that deserves a container that does not look like it came out of a flat-pack box. The brass will deepen with time and fingerprints, which is the correct trajectory for an object meant to be opened every morning.
