Details

Made from 100% pure brass in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Pital Nagari, the Brass City, and finished in a bright polish that lets the Kanjeevaram-inspired etching speak without the muting of an antique wash. The motifs trace the geometric border work of silk weavers from Tamil Nadu, translated here into metal by a hand holding a fine engraving stylus.

Where the antique-finish version recedes into warmth and shadow, this polished brass bowl announces itself clearly. The Kanjeevaram etching circles the rim in a bright field, each geometric repeat precise and even. It is a bowl that will hold its gleam for a while, then slowly amber at the base where it sits, brass developing its character from the bottom up.

For snacks, prasadam, or a handful of kumkum beside a pooja thali. It is smaller than you imagine from a photograph, which makes the etching feel more concentrated, a lot of intention in a compact form. Brass does not harm food; it has been used this way in Indian kitchens for several thousand years for good reason.

  • Hand wash only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Never put in dishwasher.
  • Wipe dry immediately after washing. Do not leave wet.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and steel wool, use a soft cloth only.
  • Polish periodically with a brass-cleaning powder or lemon and salt to restore lustre.

Materials + Care

Pure brass, sheesham, cotton — colours from a dye pot, not a swatch. Brass deepens with use; that is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours. Care notes for each material live in the Details above.
