Details
Handcrafted in brass, the surface of this dabara set carries minimal etching drawn from the border motifs of Kanjeevaram silk sarees, a quiet nod to the weavers of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, whose geometric vocabulary has defined South Indian textile aesthetics for generations. The brass was cast, hand-scraped, and polished before the etching was applied.
The South Indian filter coffee ritual has its own choreography: decoction brewed in the steel filter, poured into the dabara cup, then lifted and aerated between cup and bowl until the coffee is cool enough to drink and the foam sits on top. This brass dabara set is made for that ritual, with the weight and balance the motion requires. The Kanjeevaram-etched surface, geometric motifs drawn from the border patterns of Kanchipuram silk sarees, is restrained enough not to announce itself at every pour.
Brass deepens with use. The bowl that catches your morning coffee will develop a warm patina on its inner surface that you cannot produce at the factory or in any cleaning cycle. That patina is the record of use, the object becoming yours.
