Kashmir Willow Storage Box & Serving Tray

A lidded storage box and a flat serving tray, both woven in willow wicker over dark wood by the basket makers of Ganderbal, Kashmir. The storage box keeps things covered; the tray carries them. Made in the same tradition, from the same materials, in the same valley, which is why they look as though they belong together.

This set pairs the lidded Kashmiri storage box with the flat serving tray from the same Ganderbal workshop. The storage box holds rotis, bread, dry fruit, whatever needs to be covered and kept. The tray carries it to the table, or the balcony, or wherever the meal is happening. Both are handmade willow wicker over charcoal-finished wood.

The set requires no styling decision. The materials make the decision for you: pale willow, dark wood, tight weave, flat surfaces. It reads as complete whether you put a chai set on the tray or a book and a candle. The wicker is natural and breathes, which means it treats food more gently than sealed containers made from materials that trap humidity.

Care Instructions

• Brass will develop a natural patina with use, this is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours.
• Hand wash only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Never put in dishwasher.
• Wipe dry immediately after washing. Do not leave wet.
• Avoid abrasive cleaners and steel wool, use a soft cloth only.
• Polish periodically with a brass-cleaning powder or lemon and salt to restore lustre.
