The willow shoots for these pieces are harvested young, when they are still supple enough to weave without splitting. Kashmiri artisans soak them in water, then coil them around dark wood forms, the basket tiers built outward from a central spine, the tissue holder built upward from a flat base. The wicker dries taut. The forms hold.
