Details
The Lambani women of North Karnataka, a community of Banjara nomads who traveled from Rajasthan and settled in the Deccan plateau, embroider as a form of identity. Their red skirts and mirror-set jewelry announce who they are before they speak. This scarlet runner is a contemporary translation of that same visual language: handcrafted thread work and tiny hand-set mirrors on cotton, made by Lambani artisans in the Sandur region of Karnataka.
The Lambani people carry Rajasthan in their needlework. Nomads who settled centuries ago in the dry hills of North Karnataka, they kept their embroidery as memory, each stitch a record of a place, a tribe, a lineage. The scarlet in this runner is the red of their long skirts. The mirrors that catch light across its surface are the mirrors of their jewelry, now translated to the table.
Each runner is handmade by women in the Lambani community, thread worked and mirror-set by hand, piece by individual piece. On a dining table, it does what their artisanal embroidery has always done: it stops people. It starts conversations that matter. It is a living object from a living tradition.
