Madur Grass Woven Runner Teal and Cobalt Blue

Madurkathi weaving comes from Midnapore, West Bengal, a district where the madur sedge grows in abundance along river margins and has been harvested and woven for centuries. The weavers work on ground looms, interlacing dried madur grass with cotton thread to produce a flat, tight surface that is naturally heat-resistant and cool to the touch. These teal and cobalt blue bands are dyed with azo-free colorants that hold through use.

The madur grass of West Bengal is one of those materials that does not try to be more than it is. It grows, it is harvested, it is dried, it is woven. What emerges from that simplicity is a handmade surface with real presence, cool, textured, honest. This artisanal runner in teal and cobalt blue brings the river palette of Bengal to the dining table. The colors are saturated without being loud.

Lay it on a wooden table and the colors do the rest. It runs the length of a six-seater with room to breathe on both ends. • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle.
• Do not bleach. Line dry or tumble dry low.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp.
• Wash separately first two washes.
