Details
The Mandana is a floor art form from the Hadoti region of Rajasthan, geometric, symmetrical, and deeply auspicious, traditionally drawn by women on mud floors and walls to mark festivals and thresholds. This rug carries that vocabulary onto cotton, the diamond-hut pattern printed by hand using carved wooden blocks in rust brown. In its original form, Mandana art is made to be temporary; here, it is made to last.
Mandana art originates with women painters in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan, geometric compositions applied with natural pigments to mud floors, considered a form of ritual protection and welcome. The motifs are never random: the diamond, the hut, the interlocking border are a visual grammar passed from mother to daughter. This cotton rug translates that grammar into hand block-printing, the rust brown stamped onto a soft woven ground.
As a floor rug in a living room or bedroom, it anchors a space without competing with it. The flat weave means it sits low and travels easy, you can roll it under your arm. The rust brown deepens with foot traffic, the way copper does with handling.
