Details

Mandana is a ritual art form practiced by women in Rajasthan's Hadoti region, auspicious geometric designs drawn on walls and floors with chalk and red ochre, used to consecrate homes and mark festivals. This rug translates Mandana's symmetrical, sacred geometry into a handmade, hand-printed cotton dhurrie, brought in warm rust brown.

Mandana art belongs to the women of Rajasthan's Hadoti belt. Passed through generations as domestic ritual practice, these elaborate geometric designs were traditionally drawn on freshly plastered floors before festivals and ceremonies, an act of marking space as sacred. The patterns are symmetrical, precise, and unmistakably purposeful. Here, they are hand-printed onto cotton using carved wooden blocks, their geometry intact and unhurried.

A rug with this lineage earns its place on the floor of a room where care is taken. The rust-brown palette reads like fired earth, warm against pale walls, grounded against wood tones. Over time, the handcrafted cotton softens and the pattern settles. This is how a textile becomes a room's memory.
