Mughal Florals White and Green Jaipuri Razai

A Jaipuri razai is made in layers: fine cotton mulmul on the outside, natural cotton stuffing inside, and every stitch passed through by hand. The hand block printing is done first, before the layering, carved wooden blocks pressed into the fabric in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, the Mughal floral motifs building across the surface one repeat at a time. The two faces of this razai each carry a different print.

The Jaipuri razai is one of India's most recognized artisanal textile forms, a lightweight, handmade quilt that has been made in the villages around Jaipur for centuries. This one is printed in White and Green, the Mughal floral motifs carved into wooden blocks and pressed by hand in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan. Reversible: each face offers a different pattern, so the quilt can be turned when the mood shifts.

Fine cotton mulmul, the thinnest cotton weave, as old as the Mughal court itself, makes up the outer layer. The stuffing is natural cotton, not synthetic fill.
