Mulmul Marigold Sheer Rust Mustard and Teal Curtain

Block-printed by hand in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, on mulmul, the lightest grade of Indian cotton, so fine it was once called woven air. The marigold motif is pressed onto the fabric using carved wooden blocks loaded with natural dye; the rust, mustard, and teal color palette comes from the earth tones of the Rajasthani landscape. Hold the panel against your palm and you can see your hand through it.

Mulmul is a specific grade of cotton, so finely woven it verges on translucent. In Sanganer, Rajasthan, this fabric has been used for artisanal block-printing for centuries, the tight weave holds dye precisely, so the carved wooden block leaves a clean edge. The marigold motifs on this curtain are pressed by hand, stamp by stamp, across the full length of the panel in rust, mustard, and teal.

As a sheer curtain it performs differently at different hours, barely visible at noon when the light is harsh and direct, then luminous at dusk when it catches a low-angle sun. Layer it with a heavier panel for privacy, or let it hang alone against a window that faces a garden.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold or hand wash in cold water.
• Wash separately for first two washes to prevent colour transfer.
• Do not bleach. Line dry in shade, avoid direct sunlight while drying.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp for best results.
• Avoid tumble drying on high heat.
