Mulmul Sheer Hand-Printed Rust and Green Floral Curtain

Rust and forest green on mulmul cotton, botanical florals pressed by hand with carved wooden blocks, their stems and petals slightly imprecise in the way of all hand work. The sheer mulmul diffuses light rather than filtering it, casting warm-toned shadow patterns on whatever wall lies behind.

This curtain begins in the printing workshops where Sanganer's artisans have practiced hand block printing for generations. Carved wooden blocks carry ornate floral forms, rust blooms, green foliage, pressed one section at a time onto fine mulmul cotton. The mulmul weave is light enough to move in still air and sheer enough that afternoon sun reads through it in warm amber.

Hang it in a room that receives warm afternoon light, or in a doorway where you want botanical pattern without weight. The rust and green palette is the colour vocabulary of Indian gardens, marigold, neem, fire and shade, pressed into cloth and brought north from Rajasthan. This is a textile that carries a geography.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold or hand wash in cold water.
• Wash separately for first two washes to prevent colour transfer.
• Do not bleach. Line dry in shade, avoid direct sunlight while drying.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp for best results.
• Avoid tumble drying on high heat.
