Details

From the Ganderbal region of Kashmir, where willow trees grow along the valley floors and artisans have woven their branches into baskets and vessels for centuries. Known locally as Keani Keam work, this tradition transforms harvested willow into tightly woven forms that are as structural as they are tactile. The natural brown is the color of the willow itself, no dye, no treatment, just the plant.

Kashmir's willow wicker tradition, Keani Keam, is one of the quieter craft inheritances of the subcontinent. Artisans from the Ganderbal region harvest willow branches from the valley and weave them into forms that balance utility and visual restraint. This planter pairs woven willow with a natural wood base: two materials, both unfinished, both honest about what they are.

Set a small plant inside it, a succulent, a trailing vine, a pothos, and the combination of live green against natural brown is one of those arrangements that looks like it took no effort but took all the right instincts. The weave is tight enough to hold its shape. The basket is sturdy in the way handmade objects are sturdy: dense and settled.

Materials + Care

Pure brass, sheesham, cotton — colours from a dye pot, not a swatch. Brass deepens with use; that is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours. Care notes for each material live in the Details above.
