Off White and Blue Hand Block-Printed Towel Set

Sanganer, just outside Jaipur in Rajasthan, is a town that smells faintly of dye and river water. The printers here hand block-print on long tables, working through the cloth in repeating motifs, each stamp slightly warm from the artisan's grip. The blue on this towel was mixed in that town.

Sanganer's hand block-printing tradition produces handmade cloth by hand from start to finish, no rollers, no digital screens, no repeat feeds. A carved teak block holds the motif; a separate block lays the ground; the artisan's eye holds the register. This off-white and blue set carries the geometry of that process: clean lines with a human variance that makes each towel slightly distinct from the next. The waffle weave structure means the cotton absorbs readily and dries between uses without sitting damp.

Set them in a guest bathroom and the room shifts, not styled, but considered. This is what handcrafted objects do when they are used rather than displayed.
