Olive Lippan Mud & Mirror Wall Disc

In Kutch, Gujarat, where the Rann stretches white and still, women have pressed mirrors into mud walls for generations, a practice called Lippan, meaning 'to plaster.' Artisans here work with raw clay and hand-set shisha glass to build each geometric pattern from the surface up. Hold this piece close and the mirrors catch the light like a hundred small suns.

This wall disc comes from Kutch, Gujarat, where the Lippan tradition has lived inside homes and on the outer walls of bhungas for centuries. Artisans press natural clay onto a ply base, inset mirror fragments by hand, and layer geometric motifs inspired by the white desert landscape around them. The olive tone grounds the piece in earth without disappearing into it.

Hang it in a reading corner, above a low sideboard, or alongside other Lippan pieces in a salon wall. The clay surface is deliberately textural, you feel the relief when you run a finger across it. The mirrors shift in whatever light they catch, morning or evening, making the same wall look different twice a day.
