Sanganer Blue Mulmul Cotton Quilted Comforter

Printed by artisans in Sanganer, on the outskirts of Jaipur, Rajasthan, using the Sanganeri hand block-printing method, carved wooden blocks pressed into mulmul cotton, the motifs inspired by Mughal miniature painting and the geometric ornament of Jaipur's palace interiors. Light blue on off-white, the colors recall whitewash walls and overcast afternoons.

The Sanganeri tradition is defined by its restraint, fine-line motifs, delicate patterning, a palette that never shouts. This quilted cotton comforter carries those prints across fine mulmul cotton in a blue-and-off-white combination whose reference points reach back to the Mughal court paintings that inspired the Chippa printers of Sanganer in the first place.

As a year-round comforter it works because mulmul works: the weave is open enough to breathe in heat, substantial enough to register in a cold room. It doubles as a coverlet, a lightweight throw, or a textile you unfold on the living room floor when the house is full and someone needs a bed.
