Details
A floral motif in charcoal on off-white is the restraint that makes a pattern permanent. In Sanganer, outside Jaipur in Rajasthan, printers have worked this dark-on-light register for as long as the town has practiced block-printing, the carved wooden block carrying the flower, the cotton carrying the mark.
Hand block-printed in Sanganer, Rajasthan, this cushion cover renders a floral motif in charcoal on off-white, a combination that the region's printers have understood for centuries as the most legible and the least perishable. The block is teak; the pigment is water-based; the impression is made by the full weight of the printer's palm. Pure cotton takes the print cleanly and holds it through repeated washing, the charcoal settling slightly darker in the first two washes and then holding firm.
This cover works alone or paired. It does not require other cushions to make sense, and it does not fight with them when they are present.
