Chintz Ivory, Brick Red and Navy Bedsheet

Three colors, one block at a time, the Chintz printer in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, inks each block separately, registers each impression against the previous one by eye, and builds the pattern up through layering. This bedsheet in Ivory, Brick Red, and Navy Blue is that process made visible: the colors sharp where the block pressed cleanly, slightly ghosted where the cotton grain interrupted the pigment.

Chintz is an Indian word for an Indian textile, chint, meaning spotted or variegated. The European Chintz craze of the 18th century was a craze for this: hand block-printed Indian cotton, its colors fast and its patterns intricate. This bedsheet continues that tradition in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, with a three-color palette of Ivory, Brick Red, and Navy Blue that echoes antique Chintz while reading as entirely contemporary.

The 18th-century floral motifs are rendered in pure cotton, hand block-printed with carved wooden blocks. Two pillow covers complete the set. The Ivory ground is warm, the Brick Red grounded, the Navy Blue the darkest note, a palette that works in morning light and lamp light without adjusting itself for either.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold, gentle cycle.
• Wash separately for first two washes.
• Do not bleach. Tumble dry low or line dry in shade.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp.
• Store folded in a cool, dry place.
