Indigo and Brown Kashmiri Willow Wicker Planter Trio

Three planters from the Ganderbal valley of Kashmir, each woven by hand by artisans in the Keani Keam willow wicker tradition. Indigo-dyed willow strips are woven alongside natural brown willow, the color comes from within the material, not from paint or surface treatment applied afterward. Because each planter is woven independently, the distribution of indigo and brown varies across the three.

The Keani Keam tradition of Ganderbal, Kashmir produces objects that are consistent in method and variable in result, because the willow is woven by hand and the dye distribution shifts with each piece, no three planters in a set are quite the same. The indigo-and-brown combination holds across all three, but the proportion shifts: one piece might read more indigo, another more brown, a third balanced between them.

Arranged as a group on a shelf or ledge, the three register as a collection rather than a matched set. That small difference between them is not a quality problem, it is the evidence of the making. Put different plants in each one. Leave one empty. The willow and wood base look as good empty as they do planted.
