Details

A single planter from the Ganderbal region of Kashmir, woven by hand in the Keani Keam willow wicker tradition. The indigo and natural brown combination is achieved by dyeing specific willow strips before weaving, the color is structural, part of the object from its first woven row. Artisans from the Kashmir Valley have worked willow this way for generations, the technique passed within communities without formal documentation.

From Ganderbal, Kashmir, where the willow grows along the valley floor and artisans weave it into Keani Keam vessels by hand. This single planter pairs indigo-dyed willow with natural brown willow in a two-tone pattern that is neither gradient nor stripe, the interplay of the two colors shifts depending on where the dyed strips fall in the weave. No two pieces read exactly the same.

The planter is compact enough for a windowsill or shelf but visually specific enough to hold its own without being surrounded by other things. Set something small and green inside it, the indigo and plant green have a long history of looking right together.
