Ivory and Rust Hand Block-Printed Floral Cushion Cover

Rust is the color of old brass, of harvest earth, of the sindoor at a threshold. In Sanganer, outside Jaipur in Rajasthan, printers have worked this warm register for centuries, pressing carved wooden blocks into pigment and onto cotton. The ivory ground makes the rust glow rather than burn.

This cushion cover is hand block-printed in Sanganer, Rajasthan, using a handcrafted carved teak block and water-based pigments mixed in the workshop. The ivory-and-rust floral pattern draws from the regional tradition of warm-palette printing, an artisanal vocabulary developed for the Rajput aesthetic that favored depth over brightness. Pure cotton fabric takes the print clearly and keeps it: wash after wash, the colors settle rather than fade, the floral motif remaining legible long after the first few wears.
