Jaali Dusty Pink Hand-Printed Cushion Cover

The jaali, a pierced lattice screen carved into stone courtyards from Rajasthan to Agra, has been a motif of filtered light and layered space for centuries. Here it is pressed onto cotton in dusty pink, hand-printed using carved wooden blocks by artisans in Sanganer, outside Jaipur, Rajasthan. The impression is never perfectly even. That is the point.

Sanganer, a town just outside Jaipur in Rajasthan, has been a centre of hand-block printing for three hundred years. The craftspeople there carve dense geometric and lattice motifs into wooden blocks and press them onto fabric with a rhythm that is partly measurement, partly memory. This jaali pattern, an open lattice that recalls the pierced stone screens of Rajput architecture, arrives here as a handcrafted piece in dusty pink on white cotton, each artisanal print slightly different from the last.

Lay it on a sofa that has seen too many plain covers. Set it against a neutral throw, or pair it with the green-and-dusty-pink jaali for something more deliberate. The cover has an envelope closure, the cotton breathes in warm rooms, and the colour settles into something richer after the first few washes.
