Details

Cast from 100% pure brass in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, and etched with motifs drawn from the border work of Kanjeevaram silk sarees woven in Tamil Nadu. The antique finish is applied by hand, then buffed back unevenly, giving the surface a depth that a uniform polish cannot achieve. Hold one up to light and the etching catches shadow differently at every angle.

This small serving bowl carries the weight of two traditions: the metalwork of Moradabad's Pital Nagari and the textile geometry of Kanjeevaram. The etched borders circle the rim in the same cadence as a saree's pallu, abstracted into brass. The antique finish deepens the grooves, making the pattern legible without being loud.

Fill it with badaam at Diwali. Leave it on the coffee table with cashews and a candle beside it. Place it under a small succulent. It does not need a specific occasion, it holds its shape in any context, neither trying to be traditional nor trying not to be.

Care Instructions

  • Brass will develop a natural patina with use, this is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours.
  • Hand wash only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Never put in dishwasher.
  • Wipe dry immediately after washing. Do not leave wet.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and steel wool, use a soft cloth only.
  • Polish periodically with a brass-cleaning powder or lemon and salt to restore lustre.

Materials + Care

Pure brass, sheesham, cotton — colours from a dye pot, not a swatch. Brass deepens with use; that is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours. Care notes for each material live in the Details above.
