Kashmir Willow Storage Box & Tissue Box

Two pieces from Ganderbal, Kashmir, the lidded storage box and the tissue box cover, both woven from willow over dark wood by the artisans working with KILAB. The storage box keeps things fresh; the tissue box keeps things tidy. Made in the same workshop from the same willow, which is why they hold together as a set without needing to be introduced to each other.

From the wicker basket-making community of Ganderbal in the Kashmir Valley, this set pairs a lidded storage box with a tissue box cover. The storage box holds rotis, dry fruit, or anything that needs to be contained and breathed-on rather than sealed. The tissue box cover replaces the supermarket packaging with willow wicker and dark wood, the same combination, the same visual language, now in two rooms.

The storage box travels from kitchen to table; the tissue box stays on the console or bedside table. Or keep them both in the kitchen, where the weave will absorb the warmth of cooking and the willow will slowly deepen to a richer ivory over time. They are made to be used, not displayed.
