Madurkathi is the Bengali name for the grass that grows in and around Midnapore, West Bengal, a material handwoven by hand into table linen that is simultaneously functional and rooted in a specific place. This beige runner is made by weavers who interlace dried madur grass with cotton thread on handlooms, producing a surface that is firm underfoot, resistant to heat, and naturally textured in a way no synthetic can replicate.

The beige tone is the color of the grass itself, undyed, honest. It anchors a table setting without imposing itself on it. The weave holds its form after washing; the texture softens slightly with use, the way all natural materials do when they are asked to work.
