Details
Drawn from Mandana, the ritual floor art of Rajasthan's Hadoti women, these auspicious geometric patterns were pressed into cotton by hand using carved wooden blocks. In honey mustard, a colour that holds warmth without burning, the symmetrical geometry reads differently at morning than it does at evening light.
Mandana patterns have consecrated homes in Rajasthan for generations. What women drew on freshly plastered floors before festivals, white chalk on red earth, geometric and deliberate, has been translated here into hand-printed cotton. The wooden blocks that carry these designs were carved with the same intention as the original: to mark a surface as considered, as cared for, as alive.
The honey mustard tone of this rug is the warmest note in a room's palette. It works against terracotta walls, beside dark wooden furniture, under morning sun on pale floors. A dhurrie like this is not meant to disappear, it is meant to be seen, to be the thing that grounds the eye when you walk into a room.
