Details

Three sizes, three uses, one tradition. The artisans of Moradabad's Pital Nagari quarter cast each jar individually from pure brass, then hand-etch the surface with a floral design worked by steel stylus in a slow, deliberate circuit around the form. The small, medium, and large sizes nest in graduated scale, the same motif at three different scales.

Made in pure brass by the metalworkers of Moradabad, Pital Nagari, the Brass City of Uttar Pradesh, this graduated set of three dabbas brings a complete kitchen storage vocabulary into one arrangement. The small jar holds everyday spices or cloves. The medium holds tea or sugar. The large holds dry ingredients or a generous supply of whatever the cook needs close at hand.

All three are hand-etched with the same floral motif at different scales. Lined up on a shelf, they read as a series. Used separately on a counter, each holds its own. Brass kept in daily use deepens over time, by the third month, the warmth of these jars is noticeably different from when they arrived.

Care Instructions

  • Brass will develop a natural patina with use, this is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours.
  • Hand wash only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Never put in dishwasher.
  • Wipe dry immediately after washing. Do not leave wet.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and steel wool, use a soft cloth only.
  • Polish periodically with a brass-cleaning powder or lemon and salt to restore lustre.

Materials + Care

Pure brass, sheesham, cotton — colours from a dye pot, not a swatch. Brass deepens with use; that is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours. Care notes for each material live in the Details above.
