Moradabad Matt Hammered Brass Coasters

Each coaster in this set began as a disc of pure brass, cut, then worked with a hammer to create the matt hammered finish that gives the surface its character. The artisans of Moradabad, Pital Nagari, the Brass City, have worked this technique across kitchenware, serveware, and decorative objects for centuries. These coasters are the smallest canvas for the same tradition.

Hand-hammered in pure brass by the metalworkers of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, these coasters carry a matt finish that absorbs light rather than reflecting it, warm, not flashy, suited to a table that has other things to say. The hammered texture gives each coaster a surface that is comfortable to handle, not slippery, with enough weight that they do not shift when a glass is set down.

On a coffee table or dining surface, the set reads as intentional without being ostentatious. Over time, the brass deepens toward a richer gold where it is most handled, the rim first, then the center. Each coaster becomes, gradually, its own record.

Care Instructions

• Brass will develop a natural patina with use, this is not a defect, it is the object becoming yours.
• Hand wash only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Never put in dishwasher.
• Wipe dry immediately after washing. Do not leave wet.
• Avoid abrasive cleaners and steel wool, use a soft cloth only.
• Polish periodically with a brass-cleaning powder or lemon and salt to restore lustre.
