Mulmul Chintz Sheer Off-White, Brick Red and Navy

Mulmul is India's answer to the question of how fine a cotton can become before it stops being cloth and starts being air. Hand-block printed with 18th-century Chintz florals by artisans outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, this sheer panel in off-white, brick red, and navy carries its pattern lightly, the motifs pressed into a fabric so fine that light passes through the print itself. A Mughal court once draped mulmul across its windows. This is that continuity.

The finest ground in the Chintz sheer range: mulmul cotton, so finely woven it barely registers in the hand. The 18th-century floral block-print pattern, the same one that appears on heavier cotton panels in this collection, reads differently here. On mulmul, the brick red and navy motifs seem to be suspended in the cloth rather than printed onto it, the florals and trailing vines floating against off-white ground.

Hang this at a window and watch what it does with afternoon light. That is the point.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold or hand wash in cold water.
• Wash separately for first two washes to prevent colour transfer.
• Do not bleach. Line dry in shade, avoid direct sunlight while drying.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp for best results.
• Avoid tumble drying on high heat.
