Rust & Taupe Marigold Cotton Quilt

Rust is the color of Rajasthan at noon, the laterite walls, the old iron gates, the sindoor-stained doorways of haveli homes. Taupe is what dust looks like in late afternoon light. In Sanganer, outside Jaipur, block printers press carved wooden blocks into cotton to make marigold motifs in these two tones, the genda phool, which marks every threshold, festival, and farewell in Indian life. The quilt carries that weight lightly.

From the Marigold Collection, printed in Sanganer using the hand-block method: carved wooden blocks press rust and taupe marigold motifs into cotton, the same flower that strings every Indian ceremony. The motif was drawn from the jaali patterns of Rajasthan's palace courtyards, geometry borrowed from stone, translated into cloth.

This quilt functions across seasons. It is light enough for a summer night under the ceiling fan and provides the right weight layer in a climate-controlled room. The rust deepens with each wash, moving toward something richer and more itself.
