Sheer Blue and Dusty Pink Mulmul Curtain

Mulmul, the lightest weave of cotton, so fine it was once called 'woven air', has been made along the Gangetic plain for centuries. This sheer curtain is hand-printed in blue and dusty pink using carved wooden blocks, then sewn into a panel that lets light pass through while holding its pattern. You notice the print most when the sun is behind it.

Mulmul cotton is almost transparent by nature, a weave so open it does not so much block light as colour it. These curtains are hand-printed in blue and dusty pink, the wooden block pressed onto the fabric with enough pressure to leave the motif and enough restraint to let the ground fabric read through. The effect at a window is something between a filter and a frame: the room beyond the glass becomes softer, more considered.

This panel is cut for windows and tall doorways alike. Hang it where you want the day's light to shift rather than stop, a south-facing room in the afternoon, a bedroom that wakes with the sun, a French door that opens to a garden. The mulmul is featherlight in the hand and moves with any breeze.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold or hand wash in cold water.
• Wash separately for first two washes to prevent colour transfer.
• Do not bleach. Line dry in shade, avoid direct sunlight while drying.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp for best results.
• Avoid tumble drying on high heat.
